The medical and pharmaceutical programmes were accredited by the Hungarian Accreditation Board in 2005. The Faculty of Medicine is listed under the WHO Directory.
In March 1997, the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA) determined that the medical accreditation standards used by Hungary were comparable to the standards used to evaluate the programme leading to the M.D. degree in the United States.
The programme meets all criteria from the Department of Education of the State of New York.
The Faculty of Medicine is proud of having its achievements recognised also by the State of California. Thanks to the accreditation of the English programme, granted in September 2003, the students may participate in clinical rotations according to the training standards in California. The graduates of the study programme in English may participate in postgraduate education and obtain their licence in California, as long as they meet all requirements for the granting of a licence.
In a university survey published 2002 by UnivPRESS, Szeged University classified as the first medical university in Hungary thanks to the marketability of the training and the degree.
In accordance with a survey made by the Higher Education Institute of the University of Shanghai Jiao Tong, which establishes the university ranking at a worldwide level, the University of Szeged scored among the best 500 universities worldwide for 9 consecutive years (2003 to 2011). The University tops the national classification in Hungary.
International recognition of Diplomas:
European Union:
The programs of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Szeged are adapted to the Bologna process, which guarantees the recognition of the final Diplomas in the whole EU as well as the EEA and other countries.
The University has also implemented the European Credits Transfer System (ECTS). The program of Medicine comprises 360 ECTS and Dentistry 300 ECTS. This European system offers the possibility of transferring to a different university within the European Union, after completion of all the credits belonging to the first year of studies.
USA:
Students who graduate in Medicine (international program) at the University of Szeged are also eligible to sit the USMLE; the examination to obtain the medical license in the USA. The Faculty of Medicine is also recognized by the ECFMG, the North American institution in charge of recognizing foreign medical Diplomas of Medicine.
